Tapestry: developing and promoting Rhythm Tap in Ireland

Founded in 1996 by critically acclaimed choreographer, Diane Richardson, Tapestry has been introducing Irish audiences to Rhythm Tap through performance and workshop.

Unlike Broadway tap, where emphasis is placed on the synchronized movements of the arms and feet, Rhythm Tap is more closely associated with its distant cousin – Sean Nos dancing – where the body finds its natural balance, shoes become instruments and the rhythm is the music that they play.

Tapestry incorporates threads of Celtic influence as well as a strong taste of American jazz style, all the while sounding out the beat of the 21st century. Forget the glitz and glamour of the chorus line; this is tap with attitude, humour-and a pinch of salt!
Diane's teaching career has spanned more than 20 years during which time she has passed on her love for dance to people of all ages, amateur and professional alike.

Twice awarded scholarships to Colorado International Tap Festival, Diane has trained with Gregory Hines, Savion Glover, Charles "Honi" Coles, Brenda Bufalino, Jimmy Slyde and with Heather Cornell of Manhattan Tap, NY.

Tapestry offers regular workshops and evening classes in Dublin city centre
